Sam Welcomes Joanna Mikulski
We are proud and honored to announce Joanna Mikulski as an Advisor.
Joanna is equal parts futurist and realist, data-driven with heart, a strategist, and policy expert who leads with the desire to do one thing: create lasting upward mobility.
And she’s done it. At the Biden Administration White House, Joanna’s work in domestic policy contributed to the training of 10,000s of workers, investing millions in equitable workforce development, and diversifying recruitment and hiring. And now, Joanna continues her work at the intersection of workforce, technology and innovation policy – how they collide and what we can do about it.
Care work, work in the age of AI and its effects, are largely gendered. Women make up 60% of unpaid caregivers in the United States. Of the roughly 6 million workers who would have the hardest time adapting to AI-related job loss and finding a new position, 86% are women.
Joanna brings expertise from over 15 years at the intersection of government, business, and philanthropy. She is a policy leader in the future of work, the impact of AI on the labor market, equitable innovation, and talent development for growing industries.
Acutely aware of the challenges women face as our systems leave us behind, she embodies the new normal: breadwinner, homemaker, and caretaker. Originally from Pennsylvania, Joanna has a BA from Notre Dame and a Master’s of Public Policy from Georgetown University and has settled in the Washington, D.C. area with her family.
“Every day brings new headlines about how AI and other technologies and trends are impacting our working lives – and in unprecedented ways. It can seem impossible to know who to trust, how to parse fact from hype. I’m so excited to be joining Sam - a platform that helps women navigate this moment together, human-to-human. ”
Joanna will support Sam on the future of work policy for women and technology’s role in this along with economic mobility and women-centered data policy.
“ The future sends hints and it’s saying: the impact of an aging Boomer population and AI on women needs to be prioritized and planned for - NOW. And Joanna will advise Sam here so that we can better support women through them.”
