It's okay to let some joy in

As a kid, we have fond memories of summer as the season to be carefree, full of play, sunshine, and ice cream. Now as an adult, we’re juggling endless to-dos, managing schedules, and running from one obligation to the next — rarely giving ourselves permission to just play or remember what it feels like to be carefree.

You may be living in survival mode: caring for your aging parents, parenting bored kids, working nonstop, navigating loss, or just barely holding it all together. Joy, peace, and fun might feel like luxuries you can’t afford. Or like a stranger you haven’t seen in years.

We’re inviting you to reclaim the parts of yourself that have been waiting patiently in the background as the painter, the dancer, the hiker, the writer, the photographer, the musician, the goofball, or the dreamer. The version of you who knows how to play for no reason at all. You can find fun again, whether it’s picking a hobby back up or learning something new. Prioritize pleasure and let play back into your life.

You are more than your to-do list. More than your job. More than your caregiver identity as a parent or daughter. And yes, more than your burdens.

Joy, peace, and fun are not just rewards. You have a right to them, and it’s yours to claim, starting now.

“It is not selfish to find joy in your own life — it is essential.”

— Audre Lorde

Give yourself the love you so easily give to everyone else.

Give yourself the love you so easily give to everyone else.

We are serious about love. Especially self-love.

We’re honoring the many forms courage and self-love can take. In a world that often highlights fear and division, we choose to shine a light on love, especially the love we give ourselves. Self-love is the bold, radical act of living authentically: choosing visibility, speaking your truth, and embracing joy even when the world doesn’t make it easy. And in times like these, we need it more than ever.

"You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection." — Buddha

Self-love can take on many forms, more than just bubble baths and sticky-note mantras though we’re all for those too! It can also be:

  • Loving yourself through heartbreak, divorce, or death

  • Becoming someone new after caregiving, loss, or life change

  • Giving yourself permission to ask for help

  • Loving your body through change (aging, health, hormones)

  • Loving a new version of your parent or spouse

  • Walking away from a less-than-ideal job

  • Grieving your former identity and still honoring her

  • Letting go of “shoulds” and timelines

  • Quieting your inner critic

  • Not forgetting yourself outside of work

  • Knowing who you are other than just as a parent or daughter

  • Reclaiming joy

  • Unhooking your self-worth from productivity

  • Saying no without feeling bad after

  • Choosing rest

  • Setting boundaries at work

  • Creating space for play, pleasure, and curiosity

  • Letting go of who and what no longer fit in your life

  • Rebuilding trust with yourself after burnout or betrayal

We invite you to find time for yourself. To offer the kind of love you so easily give to everyone else.

What is disenfranchised grief?

Loss that society doesn't recognize or support.

But it is very real. "The lack of recognition or support often leaves women questioning whether their pain is valid, creating additional layers of isolation during an already vulnerable time. Validating these experiences through grief work is essential for healing," says Sam Expert Dr. Erika Austin.
